Ivy Gourd Chutney | Kovakai Chutney

Ivy Gourd is a very nutritious vegetable. It has lots of medicinal properties. But like many even I do not like this much. But if you give it to me in disguise I do not mind eating it. Same way I would love to make it into this yummy chutney and have it. Mix this Ivy Gourd Chutney | Peerkangai Chutney with some sour curd and add some roasted gram and spread it on dosa you can have 100s. Such a tasty dish it is. 



Ingredients:

Ivy Gourd- 10 to 15
Cumin- 1 tbsp
Black Gram- 3 tbsp
Bengal Gram- 2 tbsp
Red Chilly- 4
Green Chilly- 2
Garlic- 3 pods
Oil- 3 tbsp

For Seasoning:
Curry Leaves few
Cumin- 1 tsp
Black Gram- 1 tsp

Method:

  • Finely chop cleaned Ivy gourd into thin slices.
  • Heat oil in a kadai.
  • Fry Bengal gram, urad dhall, cumin till urad dhall (Black Gram) turns golden brown.
  • Add sliced Ivy Gourd and red chillies,and green chillies.
  • Fry well till the raw smell of Ivy Gourd vanishes.
  • Let all the ingredients cool down.
  • Run through a mixer grinder till smooth.
  • For seasoning fry some curry leaves, cumin and black gram and add it to the chutney.
  • Serve hot with adai.
