Tamarind Rice (Puliogare)

My neighbour mami makes this often during picnic and she is the best cook for this. I learnt it from her.
Ingredients:

Cooked Rice-2 cups
Tamarind- 1 lemon sized
Fenugreek- 1 tsp
Mustard- 1 tsp
Urad dhall- 1 tsp
Curry leaves- few
Red chillies- 4
Salt as per taste
Jagger powder- 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder- 1 pinch
Chilli powder- 1 tsp
Asofetida-1/2 tsp
Oil- 5 tbsp
Peanuts- 1/2 cup

Dry roast and powder:

Red chillies- 2
Urad dhall- 1 tsp
Bengal gram- 1 tsp
Fenugreek- 1/2 tsp
Pepper- a pinch

Method:

  • Grind the powder and keep aside.
  • Soak tamarind in hot water for 30 min and grind to make a smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in a kadai.
  • Fry peanuts well and remove them from kadai.
  • Add curry leaves, mustard, red chillies, turmeric, red chilli powder, asofetida and fry them well.
  • Add urad dhall, fenugreek, salt and toss them well.
  • Add tamarind paste and jaggery and cook them well until oil seperates.
  • Add the ground powder and peanuts and remove from fire.
  • Add cooked rice and mix them well.
