Kichedi/ Upma

A simple, healthy, tasty one pot meal. Adding more veggies increases the nutritive value and adds taste to this dish.

Rava/Sooji- 2 cups
Onion- 1
Green chillies- 3
Garlic-3 pods
Carrot- 1
Beans- 5
Salt as per taste
Mustard- 1 tsp
Oil- 3 tbsp
Water- 4 cups

  • Roast Sooji/Rava well. Use slow flame and roast well till a good aroma araises.
  • Chop onion, garlic, green chillies, carrot and beans finely.
  • Heat a kadai with oil.
  • Fry mustard and green chillies.
  • Add onion and salt and fry well.
  • Now add carrot beans and pour water.
  • Let the water boil well.
  • When water is boiling check salt and adjust.
  • Simmer the flame, add sooji/rava and keep stirring.
  • Stir continuously till water get absorbed.
  • Remove from fire and serve hot.
  • Optional: you can add some ghee at the end and mix well/ add fried cashews.
